Under the Microscope: Two eggs injected in under a minute.

In the video above, two mature eggs are being fertilized using ICSI. While the actual process takes just under a minute, in order to get here, there were countless appointments, injections, ultrasounds, an egg retrieval, semen production, and then the insemination.

What most people don’t appreciate is how all of the "before" steps impact this seemingly quick process of placing the sperm inside the egg.

Proper diagnosis is needed. Protocol implemented. Good stimulation and monitoring required. Successful egg collection. Mature eggs. Sperm prepared and found. All of these steps play a part in creating the embryo. The number of people and effort needed to reach this point is astounding, but the end result is worth it all.
